The Food Group has had a busy 2008, undertaking a number of local food growing projects including the Bandon Apple Tree project which supplied native apple trees from Seedsavers to urban households to create a unique type of community orchard. The Bandon Community gardens seeded a new community garden and school garden and four other existing food projects are participating in the Bandon community garden awards which are at present being judged. The award for best community garden in Bandon will be presented in October.

The Food Group is also currently looking into establishing food growing allotments in Bandon for 2009.

The Transport Group is developing a cycling project proposal to provide bike shelters and cycling routes for residents of Bandon town and environs.

Public talks over the summer months have included a fascinating workshop on Getting Off the Treadmill from Thomas Reidmuller of the Hollies Centre for Sustainability and a very informative presentation by Klaus Harvey of Transition Town Kinsale on the Transition Towns Model.  Tom Atkins gave some very useful advice on The Importance of Growing Your Own Food and in August, Donal O Riordain hosted a facilitated public discussion forum on the topic of Transport Alternatives for Bandon which generated some great new ideas for ways forward.
