Ecocem's environmentally friendly cement is a recycled product manufactured from ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), a by-product of steel making. Its manufacture saves energy, CO2 and other emissions when compared to the manufacture of ordinary cement.
Ecocem reduce the CO2 emissions of the construction industry by over 1000 tonnes per day. Concrete made with Ecocem is stronger, more durable and therefore more sustainable than that which is made with ordinary cement. In order to reduce their environmental impact Ecocem have implemented various energy saving initiatives. The Ecocem plant only ever runs at night (sales permitting) and never between the hours of 5 and 7. They have also installed lighter belt drives and elevators to reduce electricity consumption.
Specifying GGBS cement is tens of thousands of times more effective in reducing CO2 emissions than recycling paper. Don’t stop recycling paper, but do start specifying GGBS cement!
